This manual explains how to use the Elimu Portal front office for Study Abroad Permit applications. It covers accessing the portal, starting a permit application, tracking progress, and reviewing final results.
2. Access and Authentication
- Visit the application in your browser.
- Use the public landing page to sign in.
- The study abroad permit service is protected and requires authentication.
- If you visit a protected Study Abroad Permit page without signing in, you will be redirected to the home page and shown a sign-in prompt.
3. Navigation
Use the Study Abroad Permit service page at /study-abroad-permit to begin.
- Choose "Apply Now" to start a new permit application.
- Choose "View Dashboard" to track existing permit applications.
- You can also open the application page directly at
/study-abroad-permit/applications/new.
4. Starting a New Study Abroad Permit Application
- Click "Apply Now" or navigate directly to
/study-abroad-permit/applications/new. - The page displays a form card and explains that it is for Tanzania residents seeking to study abroad.
- The application uses a guided multi-step form to capture your details and documentation.
5. Application Steps
The study abroad permit application includes four main steps.
- Personal Information
- Academic Information
- Funding
- Declaration
5.1 Personal Information
- First name, last name, middle name
- Gender
- Birth date and place
- Marital status
- Passport number and national ID
- Region, council, ward, village
- Email and phone number
- Emergency contact details
5.2 Academic Information
- Destination country
- Institution name
- Course name
- Education level (bachelors, masters, PhD, etc.)
- Start year and end year
5.3 Funding
- Whether you have sponsorship
- Sponsor type and sponsor name if applicable
- Other funding sources and financial details
5.4 Declaration
- Review your application in full.
- Confirm all information is correct.
- Agree to the declaration terms.
- Submit the application.
6. Resuming or Continuing an Application
- If you already started a permit application, the portal detects your latest application and continues from the current stage.
- The form will resume at the correct stage and may show a notification confirming continuation.
- You can also continue via URL using query parameters such as
application_idandstage.
7. Dashboard and Status Tracking
- The Study Abroad dashboard displays all your permit applications.
- It provides a summary of application counts, current status, and details.
- Typical statuses include Pending / Under Review, Approved, Provisional, and Rejected.
8. Completed Applications
If the portal detects a completed study abroad permit application, it displays a confirmation message and lets you view the completed permit or start a new application.
9. Troubleshooting
- If your session expires, log out and sign in again.
- If application data fails to load, refresh the page or retry later.
- If submission errors occur, review the required fields and try again.
- Contact support if your application status does not update.
